Print is unforgiving in a way screens are not. There is no scrolling, no reflow, and no fixing it after it has been cut. What I do: • Build a grid the whole document sits on, so page eleven feels like page two • Set the type for reading at arm's length, in the light the thing will actually be read in — a menu in a dim restaurant is not a brochure in an office • Handle the production details: bleed, margins, spreads, imposition if it is being saddle-stitched • Supply print-ready PDFs to your printer's specification, and a screen version for your site Menus get particular attention: they are read quickly, under pressure, and the layout decides what people order.
